From Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, the Red Sea and the Mediterranean “Malakos” – with about 600.000 catalogued pieces, represents the biggest European private collection of shells, coming from around the world. Located in Villa Cappelletti, just outside Città di Castello, is a real exploratory trip through the shells of all seas. The biology section introduces to the world of mollusks with their incredible variety, whereas the Paleontology Halls helps us to understand how the Earth formed, meeting also some invertebrates of distant past. In the bio-geography halls each showcase reconstructs the fauna and the living habitats of each sea and not only – it’s possible discover unusual environments such as the dangerous mangroves and the deep-sea areas, as well as to know extra-large land snails and marine predators with mortal venom. Furthermore, Malakos also hosts a reconstruction of a barrier reef, made up of materials coming from seizures by the State Forestry Corp, with species never seen before.
